University of Luxembourg

Luxembourg National Research Fund’s in University of Luxembourg offers Postdoctoral Research Position in Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine. The Research Position is provided to learn Machine Learning and Bioinformatics.

Scholarship Description: The successful candidate will participate in a newly funded research project in the overlap of Machine Learning and Bioinformatics that focuses on the representation and efficient learning (discovery) of DNA sequence motifs from high-throughput sequence data, such as those obtained by protein binding micro arrays and related technologies. The two key questions that will be addressed are

(1) What is an appropriate probabilistic model to capture possible dependencies in motif sequences in a given biological context, and

(2) How such a model can be efficiently learned from (large-scale) data. Specific questions that will be addressed involve the computational requirements of learning, the robustness of the learner to model misspecifications, and model generalization issues. The project aims at developing novel theory and algorithms around modern Machine Learning themes such as spectral methods for learning probabilistic mixtures and stochastic controllers for high-dimensional data.
